Iron Filings

Very fine, gray, iron shavings that are attracted to magnets. They are sprinkled on paper or clear plastic and used to detect magnetic fields. Can also be used to identify magnetic minerals or mixed with a variety of acids to produce either hydrogen or hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg) gases. Reusable for the study of magnets.
