A cloud of hot steam rises from a 2-liter pop bottle as we call forth the spirit of Mendeleev using his “cremated remains “(manganese dioxide) which are dumped into the “spirit activator” (concentrated hydrogen peroxide). Water, oxygen, and a substantial amount of heat are released almost instantly and create the illusion that Mendeleev is rising from the bottle to join your chemistry class. Very entertaining; easy to do; excellent introduction to colloids, exothermic reactions, or catalysts.
