Anionic Polyacrylamide (Ghost Crystals)

An extremely absorbent polymer that starts out as a hard, white crystal resembling rock salt.  Add it to water and it expands and becomes transparent.  This is a physical change, so if you let the crystal dry out it will return to its original white, opaque state.
