Thirsty Cup PDF

This lab is a quick and entertaining demonstration using air pressure. A cup is placed over a candle in a pie tin. The water under the cup is pushed out of the way by the air trapped inside. The cup is removed, the candle is lit with a match and the cup is replaced. When the air inside the candle is burned the water is pushed inside the cup. Great air pressure demonstration that also doubles as an introduction to matter for chemistry class. Grades 4-8
