- Pouring Sound Demo PDF
Product Description
This lab doubles as both a sound and a heat lab. A stainless screen is inserted into one end of a piece of metal pipe that is 18” long. The screen is heated with a propane torch (or Bunsen burner if you have one in your lab). When the screen becomes red hot, it is removed from the flame and warm air starts to rise and vibrate inside the tube. As the air vibrates, it produces a low pitched humming sound. If you tip the tube sideways, the sound stops momentarily until you right the tube. You can feel the hot air rising from the top of the tube, disrupting the convection current by blocking either end, and creating the illusion that you are pouring sound. Grades 4-8 9 pages
