Product Description
A ferrofluid, or liquid magnet, is a colloidal mixture of magnetic particles in a liquid. When no magnetic field is present, the fluid is not magnetic and the orientation of the magnetic particles is random. When an external magnetic field is applied, the magnetic particles align with the magnetic field lines. The down and dirty, quick version of this lab is much simpler. You are going to mix oil and iron filings together in a petri dish. When a magnet is placed under the mixture, cool spikes pop up into the air. Grades 2-6
