Ammonite, Small

Small, coiled shell filled from Morocco. Shell is a cast of the original animal that has been preserved in the sediments of the Atlas Mountains. Ammonites are more highly evolved than their ancestors: the orthoceras, goniatite and scaphite. Their shells are more tightly curled, making them more compact and efficient as well as harder to eat. The next step is squid, but that is story for another time.
