LL Demos & Labs: Rock Profile: Zebra Rock
This is a sample from Millard County in southern Utah. It is alternating layers of black and white dolomite. The prevailing theory is that the dolomite was originally completely dark, but was then partially dissolved and recrystallized by a fluid moving through it. In any case it is a really cool looking rock and despite the fact that it is often misidentified as marble it is a sedimentary, not metamorphic rock.
