Crystal Growing Solution

A solution of ammonia, salt, water, and ferrous ferric cyanide.  When combined and poured over porous materials like BBQ briquettes, old socks, wood, or old sponges, it evaporates to produce delicate white crystals.  Add food coloring to the substrate and you get that same color in the crystals that are formed.
